Yield to the Night (1956) opens with a murder.
A series of flashbacks explain the situation. Mary Hilton (Diana Dors) finds love and passion outside of her dull marriage with a suave nightclub pianist, Jim Lancaster (Michael Craig). But she becomes enraged when Jim leaves her for a high-society woman, Lucy (Mercia Shaw). She waits outside of Lucy's home and, when the woman appears, shoots her repeatedly. Mary is promptly arrested for Lucy's murder. She spends her final days on death row in sad and painful contemplation.
