The Lethal North American Spitting Woodpecker

I wrote in Eighteen Comedians of Silent Film about Larry Semon's obsession with squirting critters. I recently discovered two more instances in which these wildlife anomalies turned up in a Semon film.

Frank Alexander vs. a baby alligator in School Days (1920)

Larry Semon vs. a woodpecker in A Simple Sap (1928)

What is woodpecker spew made of exactly?
