Get to Know Your Man-Child, Part 1: The Man-Child's Best Friend is His Dog

The comic man-child is much like a child in the affection that he expresses for his dog.

Roscoe Arbuckle and his dog Luke were inseparable.

Chaplin put the Tramp's affection for his dog at the center of A Dog's Life (1918).

Harold Lloyd loved dogs big and small.

Of course, we cannot leave Keaton out of this discussion.

Laurel and Hardy were bona fide dog lovers.

Let's check out a few other comedians with their pooches.

Eddie Cantor
Raymond Griffith
Thelma Todd and Pete the Pup
Lou Costello
Red Skelton
Skelton again
Bob Hope

William Powell
Cary Grant
Chevy Chase
Steve Martin
Will Ferrell
Ferrell again
Jim Carrey found himself in many different situations with dogs.

This is not to say that Carrey didn't associate with other animals.

Furry little animals can be interchangeable.

Lloyd was always mixing with various animals whether he wanted to or not.

Comedians must have a special affinity to animals.
