When I am working on an article, I make a point to set aside stills and artwork to illustrate the article. But, sometimes, I end up with more images than I need. Today, I want to present my recent unused illustrations.
Most of my articles of late have been compilations of Sora AI videos. One of the compilations featured a team-up of Laurel & Hardy and Abbott & Costello. In fear of legal complaints, Sora avoids providing an accurate likeness of celebrities. So, here is their off-kilter version of the beloved comedians.
Film parody mash-ups are popular on Sora. They are a personal favorite of mine.
I turned Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" into a 1930s Warner Bros musical. I had Jimmy Cagney tap-dance his way up the Congo River to meet the enigmatic ivory trader Kurtz.
I reimagined Big in the style of a Ren and Stimpy cartoon. Ren & Stimpy exaggeration was applied to Josh Baskin's dance scene in FAO Schwarz toy store, turning the sweet scene into a nightmarish Ren & Stimpy fever dream. Josh's face stretches and distorts into a manic bug-eyed grin as he stomps on enormous piano keys, which look a lot like big rotten teeth. Beads of sweat fly off his head. His limbs squash and stretch. His hair stands on end like Ren's psychotic rage spikes of fur. The neon toy store lights mix with Ren & Stimpy's garish primary colors.
It was easier than I expected to introduce a xenomorph into the romantic comedy world of When Harry Met Sally.
A mash-up of Cat In The Hat and I Know What You Did Last Summer produced a predictable result.
Sora allows users to recast films. I teamed Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton for new versions of Throw Momma From the Train and Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
Chaplin turns up again in a slapstick version of Eyes Wide Shut.
Many in the Sora community joined together to cast Shirley Temple in a wide variety of film roles. This is Shirley in Coramc McCarthy's Blood Meridian.
Shirley gets to show a mischievous side in Home Alone.
You can get interesting results when you switch out genres on classic films. I recently turned The Shining into a Broadway musical.
I had fun transforming Planet of the Apes into a John Ford western.
Sora presents a steady stream of monsters on a daily basis. Here are a few.
Only Sora can show you Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe having a snowball fight.
Here's a few other images that I didn't get to use.
I covered several films in my last "Slap Scenes" video, I was unable to use the following stills. The first still is from Godfather Part II (1974). It's a famous scene where Michael Corleone slaps his wife, Kay. The second still is from a film with a lot less prestige than the Corleone saga - The Adventures of Pluto Nash (2002). This film features a robot bodyguard, Bruno (Randy Quaid), getting slapped by a robot maid (Lana Underwood) for grabbing the maid's booty.
